Mole Removal

Many of us have moles - most moles are innocent and remain harmless throughout life. Some, however are troublesome - they may be caught on shoes / clothing or be more prominently placed on the body.

Some patients seek the reassurance of having their moles "checked over" for signs of suspicious change.

At The Burghley Park Clinic we can help check over moles and discuss how best to manage / remove those that look suspicious or are causing a nuisance.

Procedure

Usually a tiny injection of local anaesthetic is required to numb the area around the mole. Most patients only feel a slight tugging sensation as the mole is removed - this part is usually painless. Depending upon the size of the mole, stitches may not be required. If you do require stitches, these can normally be removed 5-7 days after the procedure.

What about removal of stitches ?

For patients who travel large distances to the clinic, you may not need to return to the clinic for suture removal if you arrange this simple procedure with a medical clinic nearer to home.

Follow up

We write personally to all patients informing them of the results of the tests done at the hospital on any tissue samples removed.

Comprehensive verbal and written advice is given at the time of treatment, however, if you should have any additional queries, a special After-care telephone number is given to patients to call - this line operates 7 days a week / 24 hours a day and will put callers through to the clinic doctors who know you.

Patients often ask us if we remove moles by laser - this is normally not recommended as we prefer to send a tissue sample of everything removed to a laboratory for microscopic confirmation of the diagnosis.

Our friendly and approachable staff will help you with any queries you have about the clinic and its extensive range of services.
