Appointment
of OPEN Project
Support Worker to
assist patients wishing to access their medical records on CD.
We are
pleased to announce that David Eldred has been appointed to work with
patients from Taw Hill to assist in the distribution of the OPEN Project
disks and to be available to explain to patients how to access the
information on the disks. David is shown here explaining how the disk
can be used in virtually any computer to access the medical record.
David will remain on hand as we roll out the project to assist and guide
patients who have questions about the project.

February, 2003 ~ OPEN Project Launch.
To date, 23
patients have requested their notes on CD and more applications are
coming in every day. A patient collected the first OPEN Project disk
from Taw Hill on 4th February, 2003.
The OPEN

Evening Advertiser, BBC Swindon Radio, GWR, Wiltshire Gazette & Herald,
HTV, Central TV, BBC News 24 and BBC News online all covered the launch
and we are very grateful to these news organisations for the very positive news coverage. We would like to express our
sincere thanks to Mrs Mary Randle, a patient registered with us at Taw Hill
who very kindly agreed to be filmed by Helen Simms from the BBC News 24 programme.
This news item
which aired on Sunday 16th February explained the concept behind the
OPEN Project. Dr Paul Cundy from the BMA IT Group was also interviewed
and reiterated the warning that patients must be aware of the content of
their CDs and take appropriate steps to protect their confidential
information from falling into the wrong hands.
